Tomorrow marks one of the highlights of the flat season — the King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes 2025, a prestigious Group 1 clash at Ascot that often crowns the summer’s middle-distance champion. But before the spotlight turns to Ascot, there’s solid betting value to be found in today’s jumps action from Kilbeggan. After studying the ground, pace setup and recent form cycles, I’ve narrowed down three confident selections for Friday’s card. Let’s dive in. 🇮🇪📈
5:20 Kilbeggan
2m3f (2m2f200y) Massey Ferguson Johnston Farm Equipment Longford Handicap Hurdle (Div I) (4yo+ 0-100)
🐎 Tedworth – 12/1 (0.75pt e/w 4 places)
Tedworth might be flying under the radar, but there are reasons to believe he can make a big impact in this low-grade contest. He showed promise when fifth at Kilbeggan two starts ago, shaping like a stayer who would appreciate a stronger pace and more hurdles to jump. Today he gets both: 11 hurdles to test his stamina and a Good to Yielding surface that suits grinders with a long stride like him. His mark of 87 leaves him well-in at the bottom of the weights, and this represents a serious drop in class compared to some of his earlier efforts. If he can settle into rhythm under John Shinnick, don’t be surprised to see him picking them off late.
🐎 My Good Pal – 7/1 (1pt e/w 4 places)
My Good Pal brings one of the most consistent profiles in the field, and his fifth-place finish at Punchestown last time is better than it looks. He raced wide and covered extra ground but stayed on with purpose. That came after a solid second at Kilbeggan, showing he’s in the right form to take advantage of this kind of 0-100 handicap. The Good to Yielding ground will suit him better than heavy conditions, and today’s 11 hurdles over 2m3f are ideal for his jumping rhythm. With Gavin Cromwell’s yard in decent form and a handy racing weight of 10-12, this could be the day My Good Pal finally breaks through.
5:55 Kilbeggan
2m3f (2m2f200y) Massey Ferguson Johnston Farm Equipment Longford Handicap Hurdle (Div II) (4yo+ 0-100)
Demanding Gerry – 7/2 (1.5pt win)
Demanding Gerry looks primed to strike after an encouraging second at Kilbeggan just 11 days ago. He travelled smoothly throughout, jumped well, and stayed on strongly despite racing wide on the bend — clear signs that he’s found form at the right time. With 11 hurdles to jump over 2m3f on Good to Yielding ground, he gets the perfect set-up to use his stamina and slick jumping. He’s well-handicapped off 83, and trainer James Andrew Fahey has him spot on for a race of this nature. With Alex Harvey claiming 5lb and a similar trip/ground combination, everything points to another big run — and this time, he could go one better. Strong win contender. 🟩
